NGC 225 (original) (raw)

Discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1783.

When Caroline Herschel discovered this cluster on September 27, 1783, she added it toher list as No. 11. This discovery occurred on the same day with two others, that ofNGC 189 (CH 12) and that ofNGC 659 (CH 20). On an accidentally unrecognized reobservation on February 23, 1784, she added it once more under No. 15. Her brother William included it in his catalog as H VIII.78, apparently referring to her second finding as he remarked "CH 1784."

NGC 225 has been nicknamed the Sailboat Cluster by Rod Pommier in an article in Astronomy magazine.
