Discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1783.
When Caroline Herschel discovered this cluster in fall 1783, she included it in her small private list as entry No. 14. Her brother William included it in his catalog as H VI.30.
This cluster has been classified as of Trumpler type II 2 r.
The image in this page was obtained by Till Credner and Sven Kohle. It was cropped from a larger image, which they had obtained within their Constellation Cassiopeia photography. The image displayed here was cropped and magnified from a much larger, wider-field (39x27 deg) color film (Kodak Royal Gold 400 Select) image. It was taken by Till Credner and Sven Kohle on September 24, 1998, 00:43 UT, from Alfarnate, Andalucía, Spain with a 50mm f/4.0 photo lens, and is a 40-minutes exposure.
