graduate

Fujita was a cavalryofficer who commanded 59 Division, one of the divisions hastily raised in Manchuria in the desperate final months of the war.

Fujita was captured by the Russians and turned over to the Chinese Communists as a war criminal, but was released early for his "repentant attitude." He helped found the Association of Returnees from China (Chikiren) in 1957. Chikiren was a pacifist organization that publicized Japanese Army misconduct in China during the war. It was sometimes characterized by Japanese nationalists as a Communist front organization whose members had been brainwashed during their captivity. The organization was disbanded in 2002.
