The K-VIIs were built before 1922, and only one was still in service at the beginning of the war (the _K-VII_at Surabaya.) These ships featured four internal tubes and two traversing external tubes for obsolete 17.7" torpedoes. However, they pointed to a future of successful Dutch submarine designs.

K-VII was sunk on 18 February 1942 by aircraft at Surabaya.
