Kawamura Saburo (1896-1947)

Kawamura was given command of Singapore Garrison Army shortly after the British surrender of Malaya. He met with Tsuji Masanobu; Susuki Sosaku, chief of staff of 25 Army; and the local Kempeitai commander, Masayuki Oshio, and agreed on plans for the purge of the Chinese civilian population in Singapore. At least 5000 persons were murdered during the purge.

Kawamura was chief of staff of 59 Army in the final months of the war.

Following the surrender, Kawamura was hanged for his part in the massacreof Chinese civilians in Singapore.
