Nelles, Percy Walker (1892-1951)

The son of a cavalry officer, Percy Nelles chose a naval career instead and became the founding recruit of the new Canadian Navy (and sole member of the Class of 1908). and rose to Chief of the Naval Staff by the time war broke out in the Pacific. He directed the massive expansion of the Canadian Navy as an Atlantic escort force until January 1944, when he fell out with the Navy Minister and was posted to London as liaison officer.

Milner describes him as "An able, if colourless, administrator".
