The Porpoiseswere minelaying submarines built in 1931-1937. They used a simple and effective minelaying systems in which mines were stored in a rail on top of the pressure hull and winched through a hatch in the stern. However, the final three units were canceled when a mine suitable for deployment through the torpedo tubes of regular submarines was developed.

Units in the Pacific:

Rorqual Arrived 1944
Porpoise Arrived 1944 Sunk by aircraft in 1945-1-19 in Malacca Strait
