Royle, Guy Charles Cecil (1885-1954)

Royle was a veteran of the Battle of Jutland, where he served as a gunnery officer on Marlborough. He was First Naval Member (head of the Royal Australian Navy) when war broke out in the Pacific, and continued in that post almost to the end of the war. However, since the oceangoing warships of the Royal Australian Navy fought alongside the Americans under American admirals, his actual role was little more than directing the coastal defenses of Australia.
How were we saved from disaster and invasion? The answer is a simple one. We were saved by the American Navy assisted by its little cousin the Royal Australian Navy, whilst the British Navy guarded our left flank in the Indian Ocean.
