Thebaud, Leo Hewlitt
Thebaud commanded Destroyer Squadron 27 during the Neutrality Patrol, which included Kearny, the first U.S. destroyer torpedoed by a U-boat during the Second World War. Thebaud later commanded a destroyer squadron and light cruiser Boise in the Mediterranean and a cruiserdivision during the Marshalls campaign and at the Battle of the Philippine Sea. In late 1944 he returned to Washington, D.C., to direct the Office of Naval Intelligence.
