Games of the IX. Olympiad (original) (raw)
Football Tournament
(Amsterdam, Netherlands, May 27 - June 13, 1928)
NB: Apart from the 17 countries which eventually entered, also Bulgaria, Estonia and Greece registered ahead of the tournament. Bulgaria (3 May) and Greece (14 May) withdrew before the draw of the preliminary and first round on 17 May; Estonia were drawn to play Spain in the preliminary round (as the second match on 27 May). However, Estonia withdrew on 22 May, so only one match was played ahead of the first round proper. Note that Yugoslavia was officially called the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes until 1929, but colloquially named Yugoslavia since its formation in 1918.
