An empress of Germany, daughter of Rudolph II, and wife of Otho I, (surnamed the Great,) was born in 931. After the death of the emperor, her husband, she governed the empire with great ability during the early part of the reign of her son, Otho II. She was afterwards regent during a part of the minority of Otho III. She died in 999, universally beloved, and is regarded as a saint, though her name does not appear in the Roman calendar.
