L-Star probably similar

L-Star 1 and 2 were to be high powered direct braodcasting satellites ordered by Asia Broadcasting and Communications Network (ABCN) from Space Systems/Loral (SS/L). ABCN partnered with the Lao governement and planned to operate the satellites from Lao orbital slots. The satellites were to have the capacity to provide 500 pay TV channels and were to be able to deliver digitized broadcast direct-to-home across 15 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Launch was planned for late 1997 and late 1998 respectively on Ariane rockets.

In 1998 the project was cancelled. Hardware already built for L-Star 1 was modified for the DirecTV 8 satellite.
