Ovzon 3 [Maxar]
Ovzon 3 is a planned small communications satellite of the Swedish / US company Ovzon .
The satellite was ordered in December 2018 from SSL, now Maxar Technologies, dedicated to meeting the demand for increased mobile broadband connectivity in underserved regions. Ovzon selected the new mid-size SSL-500 (Legion class) platform for its first satellite. The satellite will be equipped with a third party built central on-board processor (OBP) attached to high-performance steerable Ku-band beams.
Ovzon 3 was originally to be launched directly to geostationary orbit by a Falcon-Heavy (Block 5) in 2021, likely in a shared launch. In August 2019, the launch contract was changed to an Ariane-5ECA+, to deliver the payload into a getstationary transfer orbit in early 2023. In September 2022 it was reported, that the satellite will not be on the Ariane-5 launch. It was then moved to a Falcon-9 v1.2 (Block 5) to be launched in 3Q 2023.
