Jean Forbes1

Jean Forbes was born before 1519.2 She was the daughter of John Forbes, 6th Lord Forbes and Elizabeth Barlow.1 She married, firstly, John Stewart, 3rd Earl of Atholl, son of John Stewart, 2nd Earl of Atholl and Lady Janet Campbell, after May 1542.1 She married William Leslie, 9th of Balquhain, son of John Leslie, 8th of Balquhain and Elizabeth Leslie of Ardonyne, after 1545. She married, secondly, Alexander Hay, 5th of Delgaty, son of Alexander Hay, 4th of Delgaty and Elizabeth Abernethy, after 17 November 1545.1 She married, thirdly, William Leslie of Balquhain before 17 January 1549/50.1 She died after 20 November 1554.2
She was also known as Janet Forbes.3 After her marriage, Jean Forbes was styled as Countess of Atholl after May 1542.1 From after May 1542, her married name became Stewart. From after 17 November 1545, her married name became Hay.1 From before 17 January 1549/50, her married name became Leslie.1

John Forbes, 6th Lord Forbes was born before 1477.2 He was the son of William Forbes, 3rd Lord Forbes and Lady Christian Gordon.3 He married, firstly, Lady Catherine Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl and Lady Margaret Douglas.3 He married, secondly, Christian Lundie, daughter of Sir John Lundie of that Ilk and Elizabeth Forrester, before 26 February 1509/10.3 He married, thirdly, Elizabeth Barlow before 29 July 1515.1 He died in 1547.2
He succeeded as the 6th Lord Forbes [S., 1445] in 1493.1

Elizabeth Barlow1

Elizabeth Barlow married, firstly, Alexander Elphinstone, 1st Lord Elphinstone, son of John Elphinstone of that Ilk and of Pittendriech, before 1507.2 She married, secondly, John Forbes, 6th Lord Forbes, son of William Forbes, 3rd Lord Forbes and Lady Christian Gordon, before 29 July 1515.2 She died in 1518.3
She was an Englishwoman in the Household of Queen Margaret (wife of King James IV of Scotland and sister of King Henry VIII of England.)3 From before 1507, her married name became Elphinstone. From 1515, her married name became Forbes.2

Alexander Hay, 5th of Delgaty was born circa 1512. He was the son of Alexander Hay, 4th of Delgaty and Elizabeth Abernethy.2 He married, firstly, Mariota Shaw in March 1532.2 He and Mariota Shaw were divorced in 1534/35.2 He married, secondly, Jean Forbes, daughter of John Forbes, 6th Lord Forbes and Elizabeth Barlow, after 17 November 1545.1 He died in 1546, without surviving issue.2

John Stewart, 4th Earl of Atholl was born between 1533 and 1542.1 He was the son of John Stewart, 3rd Earl of Atholl and Grizel Rattray.1 He married, firstly, Lady Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly and Elizabeth Keith, before 26 May 1547.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Fleming, daughter of Malcolm Fleming, 3rd Lord Fleming and Janet Stewart, on 1 April 1557.2 He died on 24 April 1579 at Kincardine, Aberdeenshire, ScotlandG, suspected of poisioning.1 He was buried on 4 July 1579 at St. Gile's Church, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.2
He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Atholl [S., c. 1457] circa 1542.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1561.2 He fought in the Battle of Corrichie in 1562.3 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of the North in 1565.3 He was a zealous Roman Catholic.2 He held the office of Chancellor [Scotland] between 29 March 1578 and 24 April 1579.2

Lady Elizabeth Gordon was the daughter of George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly and Elizabeth Keith.1 She married John Stewart, 4th Earl of Atholl, son of John Stewart, 3rd Earl of Atholl and Grizel Rattray, before 26 May 1547.1 She died before 1557, without male issue.1
After her marriage, Lady Elizabeth Gordon was styled as Countess of Atholl before 26 March 1547. From before 26 May 1547, her married name became Stewart.

George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly1

George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly was born in 1513.2 He was the son of John Gordon, Lord Gordon and Margaret Stewart.3 He married Elizabeth Keith, daughter of Robert Keith, Master of Marischal and Lady Elizabeth Douglas, on 27 March 1530.2 He died on 22 October 1562, apparently from a seizure (not wounds).2
He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Huntly [S., 1445] on 21 January 1523/24.2 He held the office of Lord Chancellor [Scotland] between 1546 and 1549.2 He was awarded the Knight, Order of St. Michael of France in 1548.2 He was created 1st Earl of Moray [Scotland] on 13 February 1548/49.2 He held the office of Lieutenant-General of the North.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland]2 He held the office of Lord Chancellor [Scotland] from 1561 to 1562.2 On 22 October 1562 at Corriche, ScotlandG, he was taken prisoner after rebelling.2 On 28 May 1563 his titles were forfeited.2

William Keith, Master of Marischal was the son of William Keith, 3rd Earl Marischal and Margaret Keith.1 A contract for the marriage of William Keith, Master of Marischal and Lady Elizabeth Hay was signed on 13 January 1543/44.1 He died between 9 August 1580 and 10 August 1580 at Dunottar, Kincardineshire, ScotlandG.1
He was styled as Lord Keith.1 He was styled as Master of Marischal.1 In 1558 he was captured by the Percys, and held by them for ten years.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1569.2
