He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1918 in the 15th Hussars.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1937 in the Northamptonshire Yeomanry.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1940 in the 15th/19th Hussars.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1941 in the East Riding Yeomanry.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1943 in the 146th Regiment, (Royal Armoured Corps), Duke of Wellington's Regiment.1 He fought in the Arakan Campaign between 1943 and 1945, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Northamptonshire in 1957.1
