Edward Kennedy Stopford was born on 10 October 1911.1 He was the son of Major Heneage Frank Stopford and Margaret Amelia Kennedy.1 He married Patricia Iona Mary Carrick, daughter of W. Howard Carrick, on 6 September 1952.1 He died on 6 November 1983 at age 72.1
He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1933 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He held the office of Under-Secretary of the War Office between 1954 and 1964.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1955.1 He held the office of Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Defence between 1964 and 1971.1

From before 1952, her married name became Stewart.1 From 6 September 1952, her married name became Stopford.1
