He was a practising barrister.1

Ethel Ley1

Ethel Ley was born on 2 January 1873.2 She was the daughter of Sir Francis Ley, 1st Bt. and Georgina Townsend Willis.1,3 She married Henry John Boyd-Carpenter, son of Rt. Rev. William Boyd Carpenter and Harriet Charlotte Peers, on 16 December 1902.2 She died on 29 September 1953 at age 80.2
She was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.)2 From 16 December 1902, her married name became Boyd-Carpenter.

Nottingham [U.K.] on 27 December 1905.2 He was appointed Knight of Grace, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.G.St.J.)2 He was founder and director of Ley's Works at Derby, Derbyshire, England.2
