Sir Edwin Durning-Lawrence, 1st and last Bt. was born on 2 February 1837.1 He was the son of William Lawrence and Jane Clarke.1 He married Edith Jane Smith, daughter of J. B. Smith and Jemima Durning, on 11 June 1874.1 He died on 21 April 1914 at age 77.1
He was given the name of Edwin Lawrence at birth.1 He graduated from London University, London, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from London University, London, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1867 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Berkshire.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Truro between 1895 and 1906.1 On 2 February 1898 his name was legally changed to Edwin Durning-Lawrence by Royal Licence.1 He was created 1st Baronet Durning-Lawrence, of King's Ride, Ascot, co. Berks [U.K.] on 11 March 1898.1 On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1

Edith Jane Smith was the daughter of J. B. Smith and Jemima Durning.1 She married Sir Edwin Durning-Lawrence, 1st and last Bt., son of William Lawrence and Jane Clarke, on 11 June 1874.1 She died on 27 April 1929.1
From 11 June 1874, her married name became Lawrence.1 From 2 February 1898, her married name became Durning-Lawrence.1
