John Cranstoun, 2nd Lord Cranstoun

John Cranstoun, 2nd Lord Cranstoun is the son of William Cranstoun, 1st Lord Cranstoun and Sarah Cranstoun.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Scott, daughter of Sir Walter Scott, 1st Lord Scott of Buccleuch and Mary Ker, in 1616.2 He married, secondly, Helen Lindsay, daughter of James Lindsay, 7th Lord Lindsay of the Byres and Lady Euphemia Leslie, before 23 April 1623.3
He gained the title of 2nd Lord Cranstoun.

Elizabeth Stewart, Countess of Moray was the daughter of James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray and Lady Anne Keith.1 She married James Stuart, 2nd Lord Doune, son of James Stewart, 1st Lord Doune and Lady Margaret Campbell, on 23 January 1580/81.1 She died on 18 November 1591.1
She succeeded as the 2nd Lady Abernethy [S., 1562] on 21 January 1569/70.1 She succeeded as the 2nd Lady Strathdearn [S., 1563] on 21 January 1569/70.1 She succeeded as the 2nd Countess of Moray [S., 1562] on 21 January 1569/70.1

James Stuart, 2nd Lord Doune was the son of James Stewart, 1st Lord Doune and Lady Margaret Campbell.1 He married Elizabeth Stewart, Countess of Moray, daughter of James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray and Lady Anne Keith, on 23 January 1580/81.2 He was murdered on 7 February 1591/92 by George Gordon, 1st Marquess of Huntly, slashed to death.2
James Stuart, 2nd Lord Doune also went by the nick-name of 'the Bonny Earl'. After his marriage, James Stuart, 2nd Lord Doune was styled as Earl of Moray on 23 January 1580/81, suo uxoris.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Doune [S., 1581] on 20 July 1590.2 On 7 February 1591/92 he was attacked at Donibristle, which was set on fire by George, 6th Earl of Huntly, and was spotted from the flames on a silken tassel that had caught fire in his cap.2

James Stewart, 1st Lord Doune was born circa 1529.2 He was the son of Sir James Stewart of Beath and Margaret Lindsay.2 He married Lady Margaret Campbell, daughter of Archibald Campbell, 4th Earl of Argyll and Lady Margaret Graham, on 11 January 1563/64.3 He died on 20 July 1590.2
He held the office of Ambassador to France in 1560, jointly.2 He was appointed Knight in 1565.2 He was Commendator of St. Colme's Inch.2 He held the office of Constable of Doune Castle.2 He was created 1st Lord Doune [Scotland] on 24 November 1581, with special remainder to his heirs male whatsoever.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)2 He held the office of Extraordinary Lord of Session between 1584 and 1586.2

James Stuart, 3rd Earl of Moray was born between 1581 and 1583.1 He was the son of James Stuart, 2nd Lord Doune and Elizabeth Stewart, Countess of Moray.1 A contract for the marriage of James Stuart, 3rd Earl of Moray and Lady Anne Gordon was signed on 2 October 1607.1 He died on 6 August 1638.1
He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Strathdearn [S., 1563] on 18 November 1591.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Moray [S., 1562] on 18 November 1591.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Abernethy [S., 1562] on 18 November 1591.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Doune [S., 1581] on 7 February 1591/92.1 In 1599 the 1st Earl of Moray's charter of 1566 was ratified in his favour.1 On 17 April 1611 he resigned his titles and was granted a new charter in favour of himself and his heirs male of his body, with special remainder to his brother Francis.1 He was created 1st Lord Saint Colme [Scotland] on 26 February 1619/20.1
