John Henry Stuart Borthwick of that Ilk, 23rd Lord Borthwick1

John Henry Stuart Borthwick of that Ilk, 23rd Lord Borthwick was born on 13 September 1905.1 He was the son of Henry Borthwick of that Ilk, 16th of Crookston and Melena Florence Pringle.1 He married Margaret Frances Cormack, daughter of Alexander Campbell Cormack, on 8 January 1938.1 He died on 30 December 1996 at age 91.2
He was educated at Fettes School, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He graduated from King's College, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, EnglandG, in 1926 with a Diploma of Agriculture.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in 1938.3 He fought in the Second World War.3 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.) in 1943.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1946.3 He was in the Department of Agriculture, Scotland between 1948 and 1950.3 He was a farmer between 1950 and 1971.3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lothian in 1965.3 He was chairman of Heriotsmuir Properties Ltd between 1965 and 1996.3 He succeeded as the 23rd Lord Borthwick [S., 1452] in 1986, after being recognised by the Lord Lyon.1

Constance Barbara Clarke1

Constance Barbara Clarke was the daughter of Edward Clarke.1 She married, firstly, Admiral Sir John Erskine Kennedy Baird, son of Sir David Baird of Newbyth, 2nd Bt. and Lady Anne Kennedy, on 6 March 1905.1 She married, secondly, Charles Kennedy, 5th Marquess of Ailsa, son of Archibald Kennedy, 3rd Marquess of Ailsa and Hon. Evelyn Stuart, on 15 December 1925.1 She died on 3 November 1931.1
From 6 March 1905, her married name became Baird. From 15 December 1925, her married name became Kennedy.

Admiral Sir John Erskine Kennedy Baird was born on 16 September 1833.2 He was the son of Sir David Baird of Newbyth, 2nd Bt. and Lady Anne Kennedy.2 He married Constance Barbara Clarke, daughter of Edward Clarke, on 6 March 1905.1 He died on 8 December 1908 at age 75, without issue.2
He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)3 He gained the rank of Admiral in the Royal Navy.2

Helen Ethel McDouall1

Helen Ethel McDouall was the daughter of James McDouall.1 She married, firstly, Richard John Cunninghame before 1933.1 She married, secondly, Charles Kennedy, 5th Marquess of Ailsa, son of Archibald Kennedy, 3rd Marquess of Ailsa and Hon. Evelyn Stuart, on 26 April 1933.1 She died on 17 February 1959.1
She was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1920.2 Her married name became Kennedy. After her marriage, Helen Ethel McDouall was styled as Marchioness of Ailsa on 27 February 1943.

Archibald David Kennedy, 7th Marquess of Ailsa was born on 3 December 1925.1 He was the son of Angus Kennedy, 6th Marquess of Ailsa and Gertrude Millicent Cooper.1 He married Mary Burn, daughter of John Burn and Elizabeth Wilson, on 7 April 1954.1 He died on 7 April 1994 at age 68.2
He was educated at Nautical College, Pangbourne, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Scots Guards.2 He succeeded as the 7th Baron Ailsa, of Ailsa, co. Ayr [U.K., 1806] on 31 May 1957. He succeeded as the 7th Marquess of Ailsa, of the Isle of Ailsa, co. Ayr [U.K., 1831] on 31 May 1957.1 He succeeded as the 20th Lord Kennedy [S., 1458] on 31 May 1957. He succeeded as the 18th Earl of Cassillis [S., 1509] on 31 May 1957. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Ayrshire in 1960.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Scots Fusiliers (Territorial Army.)2 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1968.2 He was Chairman of the Anglo-Somali Society.2
