He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from St. John's College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1937 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Ulster Rifles.1
