Brig.-Gen. Maurice O'Connell1

Brig.-Gen. Maurice O'Connell was the son of Maurice O'Connell and Catherine Barrett.2 He married Catherine Langton, daughter of Sir William Langton.1 He died in 1691 at Aughrim, County Galway, IrelandG, killed in action.1 He was buried at Inagh Cemetery, Inagh, County Clare, Ireland.2
He forced the withdrawal from Irish camp of the Duke of Tyrconnell by threatening to cut his tent cords.1 He inherited ancestral lands in Iveragh under will of his great uncle John.1 His lands in Iveagh became forfeit by his exclusion through death from the Treaty of Limerick.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the army of King James II.1 He gained the rank of Colonel of Foot Guards.1 He fought at Derry, the Boyne and Limerick.1 He fought in the Battle of Aughrim in 1691.1 On 1 August 1696 by Inquisition of Attainder taken at Tralee he was found to be possessed in fee of the various lands in the Barony of Iveagh, totalling 3240 acres.1
