Lt.-Col. David Chaigneau Colvill was born on 4 July 1898.1 He was the son of Robert Frederick Stewart Colvill and Sophia Maconchy.2 He married Hannah Kathleen Hill, daughter of George Hill, on 22 July 1954.1 He died on 2 October 1979 at age 81 at Colchester, Essex, England.3
He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, in France.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.1 He fought in the Russian Civil War in 1919, in Northern Russia.3 He fought in the Second World War, in France, Belgium and Normandy.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1940.1 He retired from the military in 1946, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, late of the Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.1 He was King's and Queen's Foreign Messenger between 1946 and 1963.1 He lived in 1976 at 35 Swan Street, Boxford, Suffolk, EnglandG.1

Hannah Kathleen Hill usually went by her middle name of Kathleen.2 From before 1954, her married name became Boissier.2 From 22 July 1954, her married name became Colvill.
