Alexander Irvine, 11th of Drum was the son of Sir Alexander Irvine, 10th of Drum and Magdalene Scrymgeour.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Coutts.1 He married, firstly, Lady Mary Gordon, daughter of George Gordon, 2nd Marquess of Huntly and Lady Anne Campbell, in 1643.1 He died in 1687.1
In 1654 as a Royalist he was under sentence of death in Edinburgh Castle but was reprieved by the defeat of the Covenanters at Kilsyth, and he was released.1 After the restoration of KING Charles II, the offer of a Peerage which had been made to his father was renewed, but declined.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 7 July 1676.1 In 1683 when King Charles II granted another charter to this family, he expressed in it his gratitude for their loyalty and the suffering they had undergone in the Royal cause.1
