He fought in the First World War.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Field Artillery.1

George Theodore Hamilton and Nancy Kathleen Butler.3 She married Alastair George Maitland, son of Thomas Douglas Maitland and Wilhelmina Sarah Dundas, in 1943.1,2 She died on 15 November 1980 at age 62 at Heath, Massachusetts, U.S.A.2
She graduated from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.2 From 1943, her married name became Maitland.

Alastair George Maitland was born on 30 January 1916 at Kampala, Uganda.2 He was the son of Thomas Douglas Maitland and Wilhelmina Sarah Dundas.2 He married, firstly, Betty Hamilton, daughter of Lt.-Col. George Theodore Hamilton and Nancy Kathleen Butler, in 1943.1,2 He married, secondly, Hazel Margaret Porter in 1986.2 He died on 21 December 2011 at age 95 at Heath, Massachusetts, U.S.A.2
He was educated at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He was awarded the Commander, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (C.St.J.) in 1964.3 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1966.3 He was Director General of the British Trade Development Office between 1968 and 1971 at New York City, New York, U.S.A.2 He was U.K. Consul-General between 1971 and 1975 at Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.2 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)2
