Clive Latham Baillieu, 1st Baron Baillieu was born on 24 September 1889.1 He was the son of William Lawrence Baillieu and Bertha Martha Latham.1,2 He married Ruby Florence Evelyn Clark, daughter of William Clark and Julia Eleanor Kingston, on 24 February 1915.1 He died on 18 June 1967 at age 77.1
He was educated at Trinity College, Melbourne University, Melbourne, Victoria, AustraliaG.1 He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1913 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1914 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.3 He gained the rank of Major in the Australian Imperial Forces.3 He fought in the First World War between 1915 and 1918, where he was mentioned in despatches.3 He gained the rank of Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Air Force.3 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1918.3 He was the Australian representative to the Imperial Wireless and Cable Conference in 1928.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1929.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1938.1,3 He was Head of the British Raw Materials Mission to Washington between 1942 and 1943.3 He was Vice-Chairman of Dunlop Rubber Company Ltd between 1945 and 1949.3 He was Chairman of Central Mining and Investment Corporation between 1945 and 1959.3 He was Head of the British Trade Mission to Argentina in 1948.3 He was Chairman of Dunlop Rubber Company Ltd between 1949 and 1957.3 He was created 1st Baron Baillieu, of Sefton, Commonwealth of Australia and of Parkwwod, co. Surrey [U.K.] on 13 February 1953.1 He was President of Dunlop Rubber Company Ltd in October 1957.3 He was Deputy-Chairman of Central Mining and Investment Corporation from 1959 to 1964.3 He was a director of English Scottish and Australian Bank Ltd.3 He was a director of Midland Bank Ltd.3 He was Joint-President of Dalgety and New Zealand Loan Ltd in 1962.3
