Thomas Holmes, 1st Baron Holmes was born in 1699.1 He was the son of Henry Holmes and Mary Holmes. He married, firstly, Anne Pleyer, daughter of Henry Pleyer.1 He married Catherine Leigh, daughter of John Leigh.1 He died on 21 July 1764.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newtown, Isle of Wight between 1727 and 1729.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newtown, Isle of Wight between 1734 and 1741.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Yarmouth, Isle of Wight between 1747 and 1764.1 He was created 1st Baron Holmes [Ireland] on 11 September 1760.1 He held the office of Governor of the Isle of Wight from 1763 to 1764.1
