Sir Osmond Elim d'Avigdor-Goldsmid, 1st Bt.1

Sir Osmond Elim d'Avigdor-Goldsmid, 1st Bt. was born on 9 August 1877.2 He was the son of Elim Henry d'Avigdor and Henrietta Matilda Jacobs.1,3 He married Alice Rose Anna Landau, daughter of Joseph Landau, on 24 October 1907.2 He died on 14 April 1940 at age 62.2
He was given the name of Osmond Elim d'Avigdor at birth.2 In May 1896 his name was legally changed to Osmond Elim d'Avigdor-Goldsmid by Royal Licence.2 He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Kent.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Kent.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of Kent in 1912.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Army Service Corps.2 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919, where he was mentioned in dispatches twice.2 He was created 1st Baronet d'Avigdor-Goldsmid [U.K.] on 22 January 1934.2

Maj.-Gen. Sir James Arthur d'Avigdor-Goldsmid, 3rd Bt. was born on 19 December 1912.2 He was the son of Sir Osmond Elim d'Avigdor-Goldsmid, 1st Bt. and Alice Rose Anna Landau.1,2 He died on 6 September 1987 at age 74.3
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.2 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.2 He fought in the Second World War, where he was wounded.2 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1944.2 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1955.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1965.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in the 4/7 Royal Dragoon Guards.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet d'Avigdor-Goldsmid [U.K., 1934] on 11 December 1976.2 On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.
