Convoy HGF 13 - warsailors.com (original) (raw)

Notes:
Commodore was in British Gunner, Vice Commodore in Clan Mactaggart.

The Commodore says that Baltallinn and Baron Elphinstone "should not be in a fast convoy as they cannot maintain more than 8.5 knots".

Narrative:
A/S contact was made by Wishart at 19:10? (document is very blurry) on Dec. 29 and charges fired - probably a whale.
Report of unknown enemy vessel in vicinity was received on Jan. 2 (time illegible).
Also, a report received of A/S contact by HMS Wellington (escorting Convoy SL 13) in vicinity of rendezvous - time and date illegible, looks like Jan. 3. Contact was not made with SL 13 at 08:15? on Jan. 3-1940. Owing to weather conditions and the possibility of enemy craft in the vicinity HG 13F continued on its way in accordance with route orders.
A/S contact was reported by Active at 12:37 on Jan. 3, but it was a false alarm.

Miralda and Taron parted company (for Pauillac) under escort of Wishart and Active on Jan. 3-1940.

Escorts:
HMS Wishart and Active until Jan. 3, at which time HMS Wanderer and Veteran joined.
