Commodore was in Southgate, Vice Commodore in Cape Race.
There were no attacks on Convoy QP 12 (the Germans being occupied with the inward Convoy PQ 16 - ref. external link below). However, Empire Morn's Hurricane pilot was killed when his parachute failed to open as he ditched alongside the convoy, after having shot down a shadower on May 25.
Escorts:
May 21-May 23: Russian Destroyers Grozni and Sokrushitelny, and minesweepers Bramble, Gossamer, Leda and Seagull.
May 21-May 27: Destroyers Badsworth and Venomous, auxiliary AA ship Ulster Queen.
May 21-May 29: Destroyers Boadicea, Escapade, Inglefield and Norwegian St. Albans, minesweeper Harrier and trawlers Cape Palliser, Northern Pride, Northern Wave and Vizalma.
May 26-May 28: Kent, Liverpool, Nigeria and Norfolk (cruiser cover), destroyers Icarus, Marne and Onslow (all detached from PQ 16).
Distant Cover: Battleships Duke of York, USS Washington, aircraft carrier Victorious, cruisers London and USS Wichita, destroyers Blankney, Eclipse, Faulknor, Fury, Icarus, Intrepid, Lamerton, Middleton, Wheatland, and the USS Mayrant, Rhind, Rowan and Wainwright.
