Cilicia, Aigeai - Ancient Greek Coins (original) (raw)

Before his battle against the Persian Dareios, Alexander III fixed torches between the horns of several goats and moved forward during the night. The Persians thought the advancing troops were larger than they were, became frightened and were beaten. On the site, Alexander founded a city and called it Aigeai (city of goats).
