(original) (raw)
Cornelia Supera, AE25 of Cilicia, Aegeae. 253 AD. AE 25mm; 11.74 g. Obv: GAI KORNH COYPERA SEB, diademed and draped bust right. Rev: AIGEAIWN NEWK NAYAR, QUS QY (date) and goat in ex, distyle temple with eagle standing within, wings spread. SNG Levante 1792, Kubitschek NZ 1909 S. 23. Very rare. Curtis Clay of Harlan Berk notes that the obverse die of this coin seems to be the same one used for Levante's three coins of Cornelia Supera, SNG Levante 1790-2. Below the temple on the reverse you can see two letters of the date, QY = 99, the full date being 299 = 253 AD. It was this date on coins of Aegeae that originally proved that Supera must have been Aemilian's wife. With permission of Helios Numismatik, Auction 5
