Freeman & Sear - Gemini I, Session 2. Lot: 438 ROMAN EMPIRE. Probus (AD 276-282). Gold aureus (6.51 gm). Serdica. IMP PROBVS P F AVG, laureate, cuirassed bust left, Medusa head and aegis on cuirass, right hand holding spear over shoulder / VBIQVE PAX, Pax holding reins and branch in biga of horses prancing right. RIC 139 (R4, Vienna). Calic� 4209 (different dies). Very rare: possibly the third recorded specimen after that in Vienna and the one illustrated by Calico. The reverse image repeats the famous type of Gallienus' GALLIENAE AVGVSTAE aurei (G�bl 689, pl. 54), only here Pax appropriately holds a branch rather than a whip or a palm branch as under Gallienus.
