Probus AE Antoninianus. Ticinum Mint. IMP C M AVR PROBVS AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen half from the back. RESTITVOR SAEC, Emperor standing left, holding globe and sceptre, crowned by Victory holding palm; VIXXT in exe. Emission 2 Officina 6. Minted in 276 A.D. References RIC 401 var. Bust Type C Early second emission of Ticinum, (276 AD), before the portrait transitions to Probus proper and thus resembles Florian / Tacitus. This coin is a variant of RIC 401, with unlisted full spelling of RESTITVTOR. RIC lumps all of the spelling varieties into single listings, quite correctly, as they are just spelling differences, not type differences but the long version is not noted. However Pink (p. 49) notes these possibilities: RESTITV, RESTITVT, RESTITVTO and RESTITVTOR combined with: SEC and SAEC. RIC 401 var. Bust Type C (This is a 401 Var (reverse legend unlisted in RIC.)
