Probus AE Antoninianus. Siscia Mint. IMP PROBVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust r. / RESTITVT ORBIS, Female standing r., presenting wreath to emperor standing l,, holding globe and sceptre; * over retrograde Z in centre field, XXI in exe. Emission 8 Officina 7. Minted 281 A.D. References – RIC 734 var. Bust Type C. Unlisted officina for type and officina error (Z is retrograde) It is possible that the use of the retrograde Z has some meaning that is lost to us today. The use of retrograde letters is commonplace with coinage of this period from Lugdunum and there are other coins from Siscia from this period that also use the retrograde Z.
