In addition to the overall documentation and preservation workof the Archive as it relates to academic film, special projects are occasionally undertaken specific to individual filmmakers and moving image genres. Please click on the project area below for full details.

bullet Our SaveAFilm initiative allows free internet access to a number of our films. See how you can view them and participate in our efforts.
bullet In 2012, a massive reshelving and refiling project was undertaken, led by Eagle Scout volunteer Thomas Peterson. This resulted in more than 5,000 films being relocated for more efficient access.
bullet The physics films made under the auspices of the Physical Science Study Committee (PSSC) in the late 1950s and early 1960s are considered landmarks in the genre of the classroom science academic film. This page consists of a short description of these films by Geoff Alexander, followed by a filmography. Included are link to PSSC reminiscences by Warren Everote and Richard Leacock.
bullet We are researching the history and collecting the films and ephemera from Encyclopaedia Britannica's groundbreaking Je Parle Fran�ais, La Familia Fern�ndez, and Emilio en Espa�a foreign-language instruction films of the early 1960s.

bullet The Morlam VCD Project represents the first effort by western researchers to document this important song form, originally from the Isaan (Esarn) area of northeastern Thailand, and now popular in Bangkok as well.
bullet Prior to founding the Academic Film Archive of North America, director Geoff Alexander initiated several non-film cultural projects Among these were papers on Flamenco music, the history of the jazz organ, and a survey of Black preaching styles. He was also a composer and performer of electronic avant-garde music for Farfisa organ and keyboards.
bullet KTAO was a freeform radio station headed by Lorenzo Milam in the town of Los Gatos, CA in the early 1970s. We are compiling its history as a special project.
