James Faulkner Sr. put this station on the air in 1968 as a 5 kW daytimer, with the WAOA (Auburn-Opelika Alabama) calls. It had a Country music format that lasted from inception until the station was sold in 1985. After the sell, the calls changed to WZMG and the format flipped to Oldies.

The station's calls changed in 1997 when it swapped calls with sister station WTLM on 910 kHz.

By the early 2000's the station was onto a more nostalgic Standards format as "Timeless 1520", but eventually tried a stint as Sports Talk radio. When that didn't work, they went back to Timeless. When that didn't work, they flipped to the satellite-fed True Oldies Channel format run by Scott Shannon.

In May of 2014 the station, along with the entire Qantum cluster in Auburn and West Point, Georgia, were sold to Clear Channel. The
