DEDICATION BY SOSION TO ISIS AT DELOS

Greek text: IDelos_2038
Date: 110/09 B.C.
Format: see key to translations

This inscription formed the base of a statuette of Isis-Nemesis, of which the bottom half has been preserved; see B.S.Ridgway, "Hellenistic Sculpture", ii. p. 146 ( Google Books ). Dedications on the island of Delos were sometimes made on behalf of foreign kings - in this case, Nikomedes III of Bithynia.

The priest Sosion of Oinoē, the son of Eumenes, dedicated the shrine and the statue of Isis Nemesis on behalf of the people of Athens and on behalf of King Nikomedes, when Dionysios of Pallene, the son of Nikon, was governor of the island.
