Summary

The Australian Rail Tram & Bus Industry Union, otherwise known as the Public Transport Union or PTU, was formed on March 1, 1993, through an historic amalgamation of the Australian Railways Union, the Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Enginemen, the Australian Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees' Association and the National Union of Rail Workers' of Australia. The amalgamation of 1993 effectively married four lineages into one, some of which dated back to the mid-to-late nineteenth century.
