Summary
This union had its origins in the Bread Carters' Industrial Federal Union of Australia which was established in 1905 and somewhat also in the aligned Baking Trade Employees' Federation of Australasia, which emerged in 1914. In 1916 the bread carters changed the name of their union to the Bread Carters' Industrial Federation of Australia. In 1979 following an influx of members from the soon-to-be deregistered Baking Trade Employees' Federation of Australia (a descendant of the original Baking Trade Employees' Federation of Australasia of 1914), the union was registered as the Bakery Employees and Salesmen's Federation of Australia.
