Wildcats Grill a Gaggle of Gasping Gators:

UK started like a house afire, and began the 1st half in perhaps the best effort thus far this season as they built a 28 point lead, then coasted to an 83-67 win over the Florida Gators in an ESPN televised game.

The Cats blew out to a 12-2 lead before the Gators realized what had hit them. UK hit on 3 consecutive 3s by Rhodes, Pope, and Sheppard before finally settling for a 2 on a Prickett basket (Jared was decked by a Hill elbow but no foul was called. When Florida missed, Prickett was still under the basket getting up and made the easy layup). Mickens scored the lone UF basket on a putback shot of a DeClerq miss. The lead was later expanded to 20-8 as Rhodes hit on a drive and a layup on a Delk assist, Sheppard hit on a putback of his own miss, and Delk hit from the top of the FT lane (the Gators got another Mickens shot, Greg Williams hit a pair of FTs, and Hill grabbed a dropped Williams ball and scored).

The Gators seemed somewhat discombobulated by the Cat's streaks, and UK maintained leads of 25-12 (at the 10 minute mark), 30-14 (after a sensational Walker twisting shot under the basket and foul), and 36-19 (when Delk cleanly blocked and grabbed a Williams shot near the top of the key). The Gators closed to within 41-29 at halftime as Hill had an inside basket, and Cross hit a pair of FTs and also got a 10 footer. UK shot 61% from the floor in the half, but the Gators managed only 27%. Florida was 0-6 from 3 point range and had only 8 field goals.

The Cats began the second half by pulling up to a 48-30 lead with a Sheppard 3, Pope hook, and a Rhodes basket balancing a DeClerq FT. Eventually this grew to a 55-32 lead until Cross hit the 1st Florida 3 of the night. Yet another spurt moved the Wildcats out front by 67-39 on a Walker putback, a Delk 3, Sheppard FTs, and a Prickett inside basket. Florida closed to 71-49 with 8 minutes left in the game on an Anderson reverse layup, a Hill inside basket, and a Thompson inside shot, but the win was never in doubt as the Cats moved back out 79-59 on Pope, Delk, and Rhodes FTs. Kentucky got a little sloppy at the end, trying to burn clock (and instead giving up a handful of turnovers), which allowed the Gators to close to 79-67 before Edwards dunked and Walker got a layup to provide the final margin of 83-67.
