Both Sides Now Album Discographies Main Page (original) (raw)

The discographies presented here represent a lot of original research, some of which we did some time ago, well before the internet was a possibility, along with a lot of more recent research.

I started on album discographies because of my interest in stereo (which was mostly on albums, of course), and because there just weren't any good album discographies out there that had the kinds of information I needed. Mainly, this data has been sitting around in my files for years, and I finally decided to put it to good use by posting it for all to use and enjoy.

TimRandyPatriceDaveMikeIn mid-1997, Both Sides Now was fortunate to add the research capabilities and perseverence of David Edwards of Ohio. Dave and I were joined in late 1999 by Patrice Eyries of France, another discographer with considerable research ability. In 2007, we were joined by another serious and hardworking discographer, Randy Watts of New Orleans, and in October, 2010, well-known discographer Tim Neely joined the group. Dave, Patrice, Randy and Tim are responsible for providing most of the basic discographical information in the Discography Section, while I concentrate on adding to the stories, discographies and album scans. We will usually work on a label for some time and then post it when we've reached a point where we've run out of handy information. Readers and Internet friends then add to the information, so each discography is a work in progress. We have also been helped a great deal by "discography consultants" such as the late Bob Hyde, who have done a lot of work on certain discographies. The date of the most recent update is usually on the top of each discography page, and also on the left in the listing below.

The info you'll find here was obtained mostly by the "Brute Force Method," which involves getting and listening to the albums when possible, combing original sources of LP listings, looking through used record stores, and the like. We have tried to list the tracks in the order they appear on the album, with a double slash ("//") indicating a change of side. This was not always possible, however, as sometimes we just have a list of tracks. We also list the stereo content where available. Each song is noted as being mono (M), true stereo (S), or electronically rechanneled (fake stereo) (E).

Chart information was taken from Joel Whitburn's The Billboard Albums, which reflect the US_Billboard_ charts from 1956 to 2005. Joel has been the ultimate source on chart positions since his first little orange book in 1970. If you haven't done so already, we'd suggest you click here to visit his web site.

We would appreciate any additions or corrections to these discographies, as well as help with other discographies you would like to see listed here. We would also appreciate posting the album discographies of other collectors and researchers (with proper credit given, of course). At this time, except for stereo single discographies, we are not planning to post singles discographies. Please send your comments to us via e-mail, or use the e- mail link on each discography page.

Because the list of labels is almost endless, and it takes a lot of time to research, format, and find cover scans for individual albums, you will find three different types of discographies here. First, there are the "finished" discographies, which include scans of the individual album covers. (We say "finished" in quotes because there are always additions and corrections sent in by readers.) Second, there are discographies that are finished in every sense except the album cover scans. Both of these will be on blue-background pages. The third type of discography, one we've recently added due to the overwhelming work load of preparing these "finished" pages, is the "Preview Discography." Preview discographies appear on .pdf files with the basic research only, without any of the "prettier" aspects of the finished pages. We have done this due to the huge backlog of labels we have partly researched. The discography page as it stands now has taken over twenty years of research and internet formatting, and the huge amount of work facing us with the remaining labels will only delay this new information getting into the hands of users. Consider the "Preview Discographies" as "under construction."

IMPORTANT: Our discography listings are provided for your research and information. We are not a catalog, we are not affiliated with any record company, we are not a record/CD store, nor are we a record or CD search service. We cannot find the records listed in our discographies for you. E- mails asking us to sell records listed in our discographies, or to find records for people, will be ignored. We are sorry to have to say this, but getting 50 e-mails a day asking us to find records for people is not fun. I know, I've tried to answer these in the past. But if folks can't be bothered to read our FAQ page, which has tips for finding records and everything we know on the subject, and can't be bothered to put the effort into finding their own items, then neither can I be bothered to answer your e-mail. Fair enough? Any other on-topic correspondence is welcome. Mike Callahan
