The coat of arms was granted in 1999; it is found in State Official Gazette Resolution No. 273 of that year. It depicts, on an azure field, a fountain. At the top is a bridge. The fountain indicates its historic mineral spa (hence its name; Bad = bath, Brunnen = fountain) and the bridge possibly for transport. Banner adoption date unknown; it uses the colors: blue and white.

Bad Sauerbrunn's water's healing power was rediscovered in the 18th century, after it had already been known to the Romans (symbolized by the viaduct). The present-day village only came into being towards the end of the 19th century as part of the Pöttsching municipality. In 1909 it became its own municipality.
