Australian Maritime Safety Authority

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is Australia's national agency responsible for maritime safety, protection of the marine environment, and maritime aviation search and rescue.

Since 2006, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has operated a large emergency towing vessel, mainly in the Torres Strait and Great Barrier Reef areas. The white racing stripes as shown above are applied to the ship's red-painted hull. The first ship, Ocean Knight was replaced in mid-2024 by a temporary ship, Reef Keeper. This ship is intended to be replaced in 2026 by a newly built ship.
