The Greenwich Flying Squadron (GFS), founded in 1924, is based at Bay Street Wharf, Greenwich. The most famous member of GFS is Michael York, who joined the club in 2001, together with his wife Jeannette. York (b. 1923) was involved, inter alia, in the America's Cup in 1962 (bowman aboard the _Gretel_challenger) and 1977 (crew selector for the Gretel II challenger), the Admiral's Cup in 1975 (bowman aboard the _Caprice of Huon_challenger), the Olympic Games in 1968 (in the 5.5 m Barranjoey). Appointed President of the Sydney Maritime Museum in 1980, York received the Order of Australia Medal in 2001 and is lifetime Governor of the Museum.

The burgee of GFS is blue with a yellow "G" at hoist, a vertical thin yellow stripe and a horizontal thin yellow stripe separating smaller, yellow "F" and "S".

12 Foot Section Burgee

There seems to be a specific burgee for the 12 Foot section of GFS, also blue but completely quartered by a thin yellow cross, with the yellow letters "G", "12Ft", "F" and "S" in the respective quarters.
