The municipality of Morro Reuter (5,676 inhabitants in 2010; 8,783 ha) is located 60 km north of Porto Alegre.

Morro Reuter (German, Reutersberg) was first settled by German colonists, mostly coming from Hunsr�ck, in 1829; the first house was built by Mathias Mombach, a former soldier of Napoleon's Imperial guard. A first Lutheran church, also used as a school, was erected in 1872; the same year, Jo�o Wagner, born in 1826 in the region of Trier, established the first private school in the settlement.

Morro Reuter was established as the 6th district of S�o Leopoldo by Municipal Law No. 264 promulgated on 24 March 1956. The district was transferred to the newly formed municipality of Dois Irm�os by State Law No. 3,823 promulgated on 10 October 1959.
The municipality of Morro Reuter was established by State Law No. 9,583 promulgated on 20 March 1992.
