The municipality of Paim Filho (4,196 inhabitants in 2016; 18,218 ha) is located 400 km north of Porto Alegre.

Paim Filho was first settled in 1893 by Felisberto Manoel Theodoro and his wife, Rufina Barreto dos Santos, probably originating from Capoeiras (today, Nova Prata).

The coat of arms of Paim Filho is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 539 promulgated on 6 November 1975.

Article 2.
A Portuguese shield, quartered. In the first quarter, on a yellow background, a maize cob; in the upper quarter, a wine glass, representing viticulture; on the right, on a green background, a pig, representing a main source of income; in the left quarter, on a green background, a bovine, also a source of income for the municipality. The shield supported left and right by soybean and wheat plants fructed, representing the municipality's resources. Beneath the shield, a scroll gules (red) inscribed in black "1962 - Palm Filho - 1975". The design and its colors symbolize the people's spiritual and moral features and the national colors.
