Passo de Sobrado, Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) (original) (raw)
The municipality of Passo de Sobrado (5,680 inhabitants in 2004; 28,078 ha) is located 130 km of Porto Alegre.
Passo de Sobrado is named for a passage ("passo") over the river flowing at the town's entrance, located near a wooden house known as "sobrado" (loft). In the 1930s, an attempt to rename the place to Flores da Cunha, pushed by political motivations, was rejected by the population.
The municipality of Passo de Sobrado was established by State Law No. 9,545 promulgated by 20 March 1992.
