Municipality
The municipality of Arvoredo (2,260 inhabitants in 2010; 9,071 ha) is located 550 km west of Florianpolis.
Arvoredo was named in the 1940s by tropeiros heading from north-western Rio Grande do Sul to western Santa Catarina, who found the place very convenient for resting, since it was rich in freshwater and trees ("arvores"). The village of Arvoredo was established by Italian colonists, to be elevated in 1960 to a district of Seara.
The municipality of Arvoredo was established by State Law No. 8,524 promulgated on 9 January 1992.
