Municipality
The municipality of Curitibanos is located 300 km west of Florianpolis.
Curitibanos was originally established as Fazenda dos Curitibanos by Captain Antnio Pereira, member of the Lages foundation committee, in a place called Campos dos Curitibanos, used by tropeiros as a resting place. Threatened by the Botocudos natives, the fazenda was abandoned.
Re-settled in 1800, the place was known in 1851 as district of Curitibanos e Campos Novos Reunidos. The parish of Nostra Senhora da Conceio was transformed on 11 June 1869 in the municipality of Curitibanos.
